Workplace Health Digest Oct 08 Commemorating World Health Day: TREASURE YOUR MIND DAY |
|
World Mental Health Day is commemorated worldwide on 10th October every year. It is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy and was first celebrated in 1992.
Why mental wellbeing at the workplace? Most of us spend an average of eight hours a day at work, which means that for much of our waking moments, we are surrounded by the people we work with. Hence, it makes perfect sense for our workplace environment to be conducive so as to optimize our sense of mental wellbeing. Happy employees are more productive, energized and adept at problem-solving. They take fewer days of sick leave and are more optimistic about their future. A mentally healthy workplace is one where its employees feel good about themselves, the work they do and the people they work with. Treasure Your Mind (TYM) Day is a wonderful opportunity for workplaces to show that every employee’s mental wellbeing matters! It starts with wanting to do something about it, making small changes in the way it's done, keeping the changes going and thereby, making a BIG difference. An easy way to get all your employees to start thinking about their mental wellbeing is to start with a simple activity. We call it the Mind Your Relationship (MYR) Movement. The Mind Your Relationship (MYR) Movement is an activity in which all employees can participate. Everyone is encouraged to carry out actions that will contribute to a more conducive environment where relationships matter. The more people participate, the greater will be the difference. If for instance, every employee writes a feel good note to two other persons, 50 employees would have generated 100 “good feelings” toward one another on this day! TYM Day thus serves to remind everyone that mental wellbeing begins with small gestures to mind our relationships. Organise your very own TYM Day and MYR Movement We also have a free TYM resource pack and step-by-step MYR Movement Guide for you. The resource pack consists of a TYM Day banner, posters, MYR tokens for employees, free talks and workshops.
